Blog Reflection

1) How are teachers using blogs to foster student learning in an innovative manner? Teachers are using blogs to assess students and interact with them rather than writing the term papers that we all know and dreaded writing during our education. Instead of undertaking the cumbersome and intimidating task of writing these long papers, students are writing blog posts. Not only is the medium less intimidating and daunting, there is a greater purpose to these posts as well. The added benefit of someone reading and responding to their published work over the internet adds an extra element and can be an extra motivational factor that may make the learning more meaningful for students. 2) How are students using the blogs to interact with each other? Students can interact with each other by reading and responding to one another's blog posts. They may learn additional information, make greater connections and receive quality, real-time feedback from these interactions that would not have been possible without the help of the internet.

  1. Blogging definitely gives the writer a greater purpose than regular papers/essays have. With blogging, students know that others will have the chance to read their writing (rather than just the teacher), and this audience can even spread to outside the country! The possibilities of blog audiences can really motivate students to want to write.
